The Sattur Sisters have released the second volume of Guru Pada Samarpanam.
Guru Pada Samarpanam has songs penned by Visalakshi Natarajan both in Tamil and Sanskrit, dedicated to Kanchi Maha Swamigal. Released in two volumes, this CD pack has Sathur sisters, Lalitha Santhanam and Bhuvana Rajagopalan, scoring the music in kriti format to the accompaniment of Padma Shankar (violin), Kallidaikurichi Sivakumar (mridangam), Adambakkam Shankar (ghatam) in the first volume and Kalyani Shankar (violin), Melakaveri K. Balaji (mridangam) and G. Sivaramakrishnan (ghatam) in the second volume.
The sisters have chosen classical ragas such as Nattai, Hindolam, Ranjani, Huseni, Simhendramadyamam, Vachaspathi and Sankarabharanam to name a few. They have sung all the songs in a melodious vein.
However the raga alapanas and swaraprasatharas appear a little contrived. `Samana Rahitha’ (Vachaspathi-Misra Chapu) is one song that stands out.
The mixing and balancing of the discs by engineer Guru under the supervision of HMV Raghu a veteran stalwart is really praiseworthy.
