A tribute to M.S.Subbulakshmi [1916-2004]

Remembering M.S. Subbulakshmi – The Divine Maestro

M.S. Subbulakshmi-1916-2004

The talent and the impact made by Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi, not just in the field of Carnatic music, but also as a philanthropist and a person who placed her life at the service of her country and its people is stupendous that it cannot be evaluated by any means.   She was both much larger than life and utterly human in her interaction with others.

She has been gone for nearly seven  years now,  leaving a huge void in the lives of thousands of worshippers of her grand music and her near divine aura.  Yet, she is ever present in those lives….
TIME has not  been able to wither the popularity of  Smt. M. S. Subbulakshmi’s music, and as a  tribute to our dear MS Amma,  I attach a Video for our viewers on the occasion of her 95th Birthday, celebrated all over this week.

She was an ardent devotee of  Kanchi Mahaswamigal  and she rendered his composition Maithreem Bhajatha [O World! Cultivate peace] in her concert at the UN in 1966. She donated many of the royalties on several best sold records to many charity organizations.
